National News – Members of the Oyo State House of Assembly have endorsed Bimbo Adekanmbi as their preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.

The endorsement came during a strategic meeting held on Wednesday at Adekanmbi’s residence in Iyaganku GRA, Ibadan.

The lawmakers, led by Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, declared support for the former Commissioner for Finance ahead of the next governorship race.

Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier introduced Adekanmbi as his preferred successor during a meeting with stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The governor later met other governorship aspirants to calm tensions and seek support for Adekanmbi in preparation for the 2027 election.

The endorsement happened hours before the planned “Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026,” where political leaders are expected to unveil an alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples Movement in Oyo State.

Speaking during the meeting, Speaker Ogundoyin described Adekanmbi as a capable and experienced politician with the leadership qualities needed to continue development in the state.

He explained that the lawmakers supported him because of his political maturity, governance experience, and ability to unite stakeholders.

Ogundoyin added that the House of Assembly remained committed to supporting individuals and policies that would strengthen democracy, maintain political stability, and sustain development projects across Oyo State.

Adekanmbi, while appreciating the lawmakers for their confidence, described the endorsement as a call to greater service.

He promised to promote inclusive leadership and continue the achievements of Governor Makinde’s administration in infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, and economic growth.

He also pledged to consult widely across the state’s geopolitical zones to ensure unity within the party and discourage divisive politics ahead of the governorship election.

Some lawmakers at the gathering noted that early political alignment among stakeholders would reduce internal disputes and strengthen the party’s chances in the 2027 polls.
