National News – Nigerian Afrobeats star Rema has been announced as one of the headline performers for the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.

FIFA confirmed that the singer will perform alongside South African music sensation Tyla, American rapper Future, pop star Katy Perry, Brazilian singer Anitta and BLACKPINK member LISA at the global football event.

FIFA revealed that the opening celebrations will take place across three host countries — the United States, Mexico and Canada — ahead of the tournament kickoff in June 2026.

According to the football governing body, the United States ceremony will hold at the Los Angeles Stadium on June 12, while separate ceremonies are scheduled for Mexico City on June 11 and Toronto on June 12.

The organisation explained that the event will combine football, entertainment and music in a historic celebration designed to showcase the cultural diversity of the host nations.

FIFA added that the Los Angeles ceremony will begin 90 minutes before kickoff and will feature immersive storytelling, live performances and visuals centred around the FIFA World Cup Trophy.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the lineup reflects the unifying power of music and the multicultural identity of the United States.

He noted that the ceremony would highlight global entertainment while bringing football fans together from different backgrounds and countries.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will feature a record 104 matches across 16 host cities in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on June 11, 2026, in Mexico City and conclude with the final on July 19, 2026, at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
