President Bola Tinubu - National News

National News – The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has officially corrected the title and appellation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after repeated errors by some media organisations and institutions.

The clarification was issued on Thursday in Abuja through a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF, Mr Yomi Odunuga.

According to the statement, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, personally approved the correction following concerns over inaccurate references to the Nigerian President in recent publications.

The SGF explained that the move became necessary after a national newspaper reportedly used an incorrect official title while referring to President Tinubu in a report published on May 7, 2026.

Akume stated that the proper and recognised designation of the Nigerian leader is: “His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

He stressed that all public institutions, media houses, and organisations should use the approved presidential title in official communications and reports.

The SGF further advised journalists and communication officers to verify sensitive government information before publication to avoid avoidable mistakes and public embarrassment.

He noted that proper fact-checking would help maintain professionalism and accuracy in political reporting across Nigeria.

The statement also highlighted official communication channels where members of the public and media practitioners can confirm government information and presidential titles.

These include the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation’s verified social media platforms and official email channels.

Political observers say the clarification underscores the importance of accuracy in official state communication, especially concerning the office of the President and Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
