National News – Vice President Kashim Shettima has revealed how some individuals allegedly warned President Bola Tinubu against wearing traditional outfits he gifted him during the 2023 election campaign.

According to Shettima, the critics claimed the clothes were spiritually manipulated and could lead to Tinubu’s death.

The Vice President made the disclosure on Tuesday in Abuja during the launch of former Head of State Yakubu Gowon’s autobiography, My Life of Duty and Allegiance.

Shettima explained that the incident happened shortly after Tinubu assumed office in 2023.

He said he had provided the President with Borno-style traditional attire during the campaign period to help him connect more closely with northern supporters.

Despite the rumours and allegations, Tinubu reportedly dismissed the claims and continued wearing the outfits publicly for an entire week.

The Vice President said the President rejected the accusation because, at the time the clothes were given, neither of them held their present offices.

According to Shettima, Tinubu considered the claims illogical and used his public appearance in the attire to prove he was not influenced by superstition or political manipulation.

Speaking further, Shettima warned against growing distrust and suspicion in Nigeria’s political environment.

He compared today’s atmosphere with the era of Gowon, recalling how the Sultan of Sokoto’s family freely sent food to the former military leader without fear or suspicion.

He said Nigeria must return to a culture of unity, trust, and national understanding.

Shettima praised Gowon for promoting peace and reconciliation through initiatives like the National Youth Service Corps and ECOWAS.

He urged Nigerians to resist divisive narratives and work together for national stability, adding that unity remains essential for the country’s future.
