National News – The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, has declared that the people of Oyo State, not royal influence, will determine who emerges victorious in the 2027 general elections.

The monarch made the statement on Wednesday at his Bodija residence in Ibadan while addressing journalists on growing political activities ahead of the governorship race.

The former Oyo State governor explained that several governorship aspirants and political figures have continued to associate with his name as campaigns gradually gather momentum across the state.

According to him, politicians are free to identify with him politically because they are all his children, but voters will ultimately decide who governs the state in 2027.

Ladoja stressed that popularity, political track record, leadership performance and public acceptance would shape the outcome of the elections.

He noted that no endorsement or personal relationship with him could replace the power of the electorate.

The traditional ruler maintained that democratic choice remains in the hands of the people of Oyo State.

Speaking on the recent abduction of 39 teachers and students in communities within Oriire Local Government Area, the monarch described the incident as unfortunate and disturbing.

He, however, expressed confidence in the ongoing efforts of the government and security agencies to secure the safe release of the victims.

The Olubadan explained that security operatives might not publicly disclose all strategies being used because of the sensitive nature of rescue operations.

He urged residents to remain calm and support the authorities as efforts continue to tackle insecurity in the affected communities.

Ladoja also condemned the rising cases of land grabbing in Ibadanland, warning that illegal land activities and property disputes would not be tolerated in the ancient city.

He called for respect for traditional authority, lawful land ownership and peaceful coexistence among residents.
