National News – Former BBNaija housemate Queen Mercy Atang has revealed she suffered a severe back injury after wearing a viral AMVCA gown made from 500 loaves of bread, a fashion stunt that drew widespread attention and debate across Nigeria’s entertainment scene.
The reality star explained that the outfit was designed by fashion entrepreneur Toyin Lawani of Tiannah Empire, not by her personally.
She noted that the concept required weeks of preparation and multiple fittings to adjust the structure of the costume, which was reportedly assembled using hundreds of loaves of bread for visual impact on the AMVCA red carpet.
Atang further disclosed that the heavy outfit caused immediate physical strain, forcing her to remove it shortly after putting it on.
She said she broke down in tears due to the discomfort and had to rest before attempting to wear it again.
According to her, the weight of the bread-based design left a visible wound on her back and almost affected her waist during the high-profile event.
She also noted that the bread-themed outfit was intended as a promotional statement for her business, and she did not initially plan to attend the AMVCA but was persuaded by her designer.
Despite arriving after the red carpet session had closed, she insisted on appearing physically at the event to avoid claims that the photos were AI-generated or digitally altered.
The viral appearance sparked mixed reactions online, with many praising the creativity while others questioned the practicality of the design.
She concluded that although she did not expect the dress to go viral, she acknowledged the media attention it received and the widespread discussion it generated across entertainment platforms, making it one of the most talked-about fashion moments of the 12th AMVCA edition in Nigeria.
