National News – The Kano State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has deployed 1,889 personnel for a special Eid-el-Kabir patrol operation aimed at ensuring safer highways and smooth traffic flow across the state.

The operation, announced on Sunday, will run from May 25 to May 31, 2026, as authorities prepare for increased vehicular movement during the Sallah celebrations.

The FRSC said the deployment includes regular officers and special marshals positioned across major roads and identified traffic flashpoints in Kano.

According to the sector’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran, the exercise is designed to reduce road accidents, traffic congestion, and emergency incidents commonly recorded during festive periods.

Sector Commander Idris Lawal explained that the command had mobilised operational equipment and rescue teams to strengthen enforcement and emergency response throughout the celebration.

He disclosed that 24 patrol vehicles, four ambulances, one heavy-duty tow truck, two motorcycles, radar guns, and breathalysers had been deployed to strategic locations across the state.

Lawal added that all unit commanders and station officers in the 44 local government areas had been directed to sustain round-the-clock patrols and maintain visibility on highways.

He noted that mobile courts would also operate during the exercise to prosecute traffic offenders swiftly and improve compliance with road safety regulations.

The FRSC stated that officers would focus on offences such as speeding, dangerous overtaking, overloading, lane indiscipline, use of mobile phones while driving, and operation of faulty vehicles with expired tyres.

Emergency rescue teams have also been placed on maximum alert to respond quickly to road crashes and distress calls.

The command urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid reckless driving, and cooperate with FRSC officials during the Eid-el-Kabir period.

Residents were also encouraged to use the FRSC emergency number 122 to report accidents and traffic-related emergencies for immediate assistance.
