National News – The Kwara State Government has called on health stakeholders to support the development of a practical digital healthcare reform roadmap aimed at improving medical service delivery across the state.
The appeal was made on Tuesday during a three-day workshop in Ilorin focused on creating a state-specific implementation plan for Nigeria’s National Digital Health Initiative.
The meeting brought together government officials, healthcare experts, and digital health stakeholders to discuss strategies for modernising healthcare systems in Kwara State.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Taoheed Abdullahi, represented the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam.
He explained that the workshop was designed to transform national healthcare policies into workable solutions tailored to the realities and healthcare needs of residents in Kwara State.
According to him, the digital health implementation roadmap would strengthen accountability, improve coordination of healthcare programmes, and support efficient use of resources across the sector.
The commissioner stated that digital transformation had become essential because of increasing pressure on healthcare services and the need to achieve Universal Health Coverage.
She noted that digital healthcare systems would help improve access to quality medical services, ensure better patient management, and boost efficiency in hospitals and healthcare centres across the state.
She also urged participants at the workshop to contribute practical ideas capable of producing a realistic and cost-effective healthcare reform strategy.
Also addressing participants, the Focal Person of the National Digital Health Initiative, Dr. Kudirat Lambe, explained that the workshop would assess the state’s healthcare infrastructure, digital readiness, and existing health frameworks.
She disclosed that the engagement would lead to the creation of a four-year implementation plan focused on improving healthcare coordination, data management, and service delivery in Kwara State.
The initiative is expected to position Kwara among states adopting digital healthcare innovation to strengthen public health services and improve patient care outcomes.
