National News – The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, has assured residents across Nigeria’s North-East region of adequate security ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, 2026.
The military said troops had intensified operations and deployed personnel to strategic locations to prevent attacks by insurgents during the festive period.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the command revealed that credible intelligence reports suggested remnants of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province might attempt isolated attacks.
According to the statement, the terrorists could target crowded civilian areas using suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices during the Sallah celebrations.
The military explained that surveillance systems and intelligence operations had already been strengthened across the theatre to counter possible threats.
Troops were also forward-deployed to vulnerable communities, while coordinated patrols involving sister security agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force, and local vigilance groups had been intensified.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant throughout the celebrations by avoiding overcrowded areas where possible and promptly reporting suspicious activities or objects to security agencies.
The command also advised worshippers to observe Eid prayers and festivities within familiar communities close to their homes for safety reasons.
Operation HADIN KAI further appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations, and community stakeholders to support security efforts through timely sharing of credible information.
Residents were warned against spreading unverified reports capable of causing panic across communities during the festive period.
The military reassured citizens that troops remained on high alert and fully prepared to deny terrorists freedom of action during the celebrations.
The command expressed confidence that the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations would be conducted peacefully, safely, and without major security breaches across the North-East region.
