The Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) has appointed Dr Ilaye Robin Subi as Chairman of its European Chapter.

The appointment is part of the organisation’s broader strategy to strengthen engagement with the Ijaw diaspora and develop partnerships capable of translating international connections and expertise into tangible development outcomes for the Ijaw people and the Niger Delta.

The new leadership is expected to deepen diaspora engagement while advancing youth development, education, professional networking and international partnerships.

Commenting on the appointment, MOSIEND President General, Dr Kennedy Tonjo West, described Dr Subi’s emergence as a significant step in strengthening the organisation’s outreach to Ijaws in Europe and across the diaspora.

Dr West said Dr Subi’s academic background, international exposure and commitment to youth development position him to build stronger relationships between Ijaw communities and institutions across Europe.

“We are optimistic that his leadership will bring fresh ideas, strategic partnerships and new opportunities that will ultimately contribute to the advancement of the Ijaw people and the Niger Delta,” Dr West said.

Dr Subi is an academic, leadership consultant and international development specialist whose professional experience spans higher education, human capital development, educational reform, digital transformation and youth development.

He holds an EdD and MSc, alongside several professional fellowships, and has worked with higher education institutions in the United Kingdom.

His interests in artificial intelligence, technology-enhanced learning, curriculum development and youth empowerment align with the growing need to equip young people in the Niger Delta with the skills required to compete in an increasingly digital global economy.

His professional experience across the United Kingdom, Italy and Switzerland is also expected to support efforts to establish stronger links between Ijaw communities in the diaspora and academic institutions, professional organisations, businesses and development agencies in Europe and beyond.

The Chairman of the MOSIEND National Elders Council, Elder T.K. Ogoriba, welcomed the appointment, stressing that leadership should ultimately be measured by the value it creates for the people it serves.

MOSIEND views the Ijaw diaspora as a significant reservoir of professional expertise, investment capacity and international networks. The organisation believes that stronger coordination of these resources can contribute meaningfully to development efforts in the Niger Delta.

The European Chapter is therefore expected to play a key role in strengthening diaspora participation in youth development, education, professional networking, international partnerships and constructive advocacy for the Ijaw people.

The organisation expressed confidence that Dr Subi’s leadership will help create new opportunities and strengthen MOSIEND’s presence and partnerships across Europe.
