Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have rescued 14 kidnapped victims following a confrontation with terrorists in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The rescue operation was carried out on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, after troops received credible intelligence about the movement of terrorists reportedly escorting kidnapped victims through the Madaci Forest.
The Media Information Officer for Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said troops of Sector 2 swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the terrorists.
According to him, the encounter forced the attackers to abandon their captives and flee into the surrounding bushes.
“Following exploitation of the area, troops successfully rescued 14 victims comprising six males and eight females,” Danja said.
Preliminary findings indicated that the victims had been abducted from different locations within the Dandume, Bakori and Funtua areas of Katsina State.
The rescued victims were subsequently handed over to the appropriate local authorities for necessary action and reunification with their families.
The Theatre Command said the operation demonstrated the determination of troops to protect civilians and prevent terrorists from operating freely across the North-West.
It assured residents that security forces would sustain pressure on terrorist groups and intensify operations to protect communities within the joint operations area.
The military also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts against terrorism and kidnapping.
