National News – Debutant winger Femi Azeez scored twice as Nigeria’s Super Eagles defeated Zimbabwe 2-0 in the Unity Cup semi-final at The Valley in London on Tuesday night.

The victory secured Nigeria’s place in Saturday’s final of the international football tournament.

The Millwall forward, who was among the new players invited for the competition, delivered an impressive performance in his first appearance for Nigeria.

Azeez opened scoring in the first half before adding another goal after the break to seal the win against the Zimbabwean side.

Coach Eric Chelle handed opportunities to several fresh faces, including goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo and defenders Chibueze Oputa and Kenneth Igboke.

With Wilfred Ndidi unavailable, striker Terem Moffi captained the team and played a key role in both goals.

Nigeria took the lead after an attacking move involving Philip Otele and Moffi.

The ball fell kindly to Azeez, who struck a low shot into the bottom corner from outside the box.

Moffi later attempted to double the advantage, while Zimbabwe struggled to create clear chances despite moments of pressure.

After halftime, Zimbabwe improved and enjoyed more possession, forcing Nigeria’s defence to remain alert.

However, the Super Eagles extended their lead after the hour mark when Moffi launched a quick counterattack and set up Azeez for his second goal of the match.

Goalkeeper Okonkwo also impressed with a crucial save from Jonah Fabisch as Nigeria maintained control late in the game.

Chelle introduced substitutes Rafiu Durosinmi, Tosin Oyedokun and Oseni Owen to strengthen the side before the final whistle.

Nigeria will now face either Jamaica or India in the Unity Cup final scheduled for Saturday as the Super Eagles continue their title defence in London.
