National News – Families of police officers who lost their lives in service across Nigeria received over N160 million in financial support during the 2026 National Police Day.
Police commands nationwide presented cheques under welfare schemes, including Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident, and the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Scheme, highlighting the Force’s commitment to personnel welfare.
In Edo State, N40.8 million was disbursed to 20 families.
Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika described the event as “a solemn yet significant moment” honoring the sacrifice of officers who “stood in the gap for society.”
In Sokoto State, N33.9 million went to eight beneficiaries, while Gombe State awarded N31.04 million to 33 families.
Katsina, Ogun, and Jigawa commands distributed N13.35 million, N30.55 million, and N12.33 million, respectively, to next of kin.
Each commissioner stressed that although no sum can replace lives lost, the support reflects the Force’s dedication to officers’ families.
The disbursements addressed families’ immediate financial needs and recognized the ultimate sacrifices made by fallen officers.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, calling the support a timely intervention that eases the burdens left behind.
The presentations formed part of Police Week activities, emphasizing the importance of honoring officers who died in the line of duty and reinforcing public trust in the police’s welfare initiatives.
The nationwide initiative demonstrates how the Nigeria Police Force actively supports its personnel and their families, ensuring that the legacies of fallen officers are remembered and valued.
