National News – Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has intensified efforts to restore stable electricity supply in the state by seeking foreign investment and implementing local energy projects.

Currently in London, United Kingdom, Idris is attending an international energy summit organized by Kaduna Electric Distribution Company, aimed at attracting private investors and technical partners to boost power generation, transmission, and distribution.

The summit, themed “Driving Energy Investment and Regional Development,” highlights the implementation of Nigeria’s Electricity Act 2023, which decentralizes the power sector and encourages state-level management of electricity.

Governor Idris, through his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris Sadaukin Zuru, emphasized that reliable electricity is essential for socio-economic growth and industrialization in Kebbi.

Since assuming office, the governor has initiated several measures to stabilize electricity, including the procurement of a 15MVA transformer worth over N650 million and 40 additional transformers valued at more than N520 million.

The state also allocates N150 million monthly to KAEDCO for enhanced power distribution, with plans to procure another 40 transformers to meet growing demand.

Kebbi State, rich in agricultural and mineral resources, has faced long-standing power challenges that have limited industrial growth.

The governor’s engagements in London include closed-door meetings with investors to secure funding and technical expertise, positioning Kebbi as a business-friendly state.

“With better electricity, we can attract industries, create jobs, and strengthen the state economy,” Governor Idris said, adding that the reforms and investments aim to ensure long-term energy security.

Analysts believe that full implementation of the Electricity Act 2023 will empower Kebbi to manage its own energy resources, reduce dependency on the national grid, and create opportunities for private sector participation.

If successful, the initiatives could transform Kebbi’s energy landscape and drive sustainable economic development.
